Casual Urban Bathroom

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Project Overview:

The goal here was to create a casual urban bathroom that would grow with a pre-teen boy and have a major coolness factor. His mom and grandpa built the vanity, and that was the starting point for the whole design of the room. Unique subway tile, sink and lighting created the whole vibe we wanted.

Casual Urban Bathroom

A bathroom for their boy

This family of four relocated to our state and found the perfect neighborhood in which to live. They also found a spacious home that had lots to offer. The problem was that it wasn’t in the style that they loved, but more of a traditional home. This bathroom was going to be for their son, nine year old Brody. They plan on staying in this home a long time, so they wanted it to be able to grow with him. The main problem was the small shower and dated flooring, with a small vanity. Given that it was a fairly large space, they wanted a vanity that would play up the space.

Understated but unique

My client loves to tinker and create, so she was a great collaborator. She and her dad built the vanity, and then we had to find a sink to accommodate it. A vessel sink with a unique look from Kohler fit the bill. Everything about this room was understated yet unique — the mirror, the lighting and both the field tile and the floor tile – all really spoke to the homeowners love of style. We made the shower larger than the original and used a really cool tile that was simple yet so different from any subway tile that’s out there. The niche was accented with an equally cool complimentary tile. Their son loved his casual, urban bathroom!
